1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 All who work in or for museums and art galleries, whatever their job, contribute to the two fundamental activities that museums perform on behalf of society:
(1) acquiring, preserving and managing a collection; and
(2) making the collection and other material accessible to the public.

1.1 MUSEUM FUNCTIONS
Operating a museum service involves a number of diverse functions. There are, however, two key activities:
(1) acquiring and preserving a collection (referred to as collections management)
(2) making this collection and other material accessible to the public.
